I would like the ability to charge a battery with my 2004 outboard. Is it as easy as purchasing rectifier 3R3-760600-0 and plugging it in? Would I need a different wiring harness? Would it have to be hooked to a battery at all times or could the rectifier be installed and then utilized only when needed?

The MFS18B2 has an alternator in all configurations, so you technically already have AC available. If your motor is electric start, you also already have charging. If not, you need to add 3R3761600M RECTIFIER KIT F9.9B/15B/18B $87.07 (comes with appropriate wiring, fuse, and mounting bolt), available from any dealer, including me. The rectifier is built so that you do not need a battery on it at all times -- you can connect it when you want to (but you can't short the output wires together!). Most folks just leave the battery connected all the time.

No. The correct rectifier for your motor is 3V9760602M RECTIFIER (RS21-21) F9.9/15/18B2/20B2 $77.39

BTW, 3T5-76060-0 is superceded to 3Z5760602M: 3Z5760602M RECTIFIER (NEW) $105.39, and is not the correct part; that's for a TLDI.

Also, this was an old post; you really should have started a new one...
