mercury year/hp

I have an out board which i was told was a 50hp but has merc 700 cowlings so not sure which it is, also i have no idea what year it is, all my searches have drawn blanks, the serial number is 9401987

My Belgian serial number chart is a little sketchy but I make that to be a 1984 model.

If that is correct it can not be a 700 (70 horse) since they were only produced, in that model run, up until 1983.
