I have a 2005 mercury XR6 outboard. Since I have owned the boat, I've been able to start the engine cold by pushing key in 5-10 seconds, letting key out, and turning. She usually fires up on first or second try. The engine has gotten progressively harder to crank when cold and has been needing some throttle to turn over. Once warm, the engine fires right up easily. I assumed the enricher system was probably faulty.
After pulling the cowl, and pulling hose off enricher, I verified the enricher is getting power and working. I put it back together, hooked up to ear muffs and caught hell trying to crank it, I am sure I flooded it. I let it sit for a while, came back a couple hours later, opened throttle halfway and it fired up. Tried again this morning and couldn't get it to start. Even with throttle all the way engaged, nothing.
Within the year I have gotten a fresh starter battery, changed spark plugs, new fuel water separator, new in line filter, and have done a seafoam shock treatment to try and clean the carbs etc.
I am stumped and all mechanics in the area are a minimum of 2-3 weeks before they can look at it.
Thanks,
John
