Re: A mercury dealer would need to do the warranty transfer for you though.
As with the original 5 & Drive Sales event, the 2012 PY Mercury Outboard Retail promotional warranty is “conditional” – customers must adhere to the recommended service intervals and maintenance recommendations as stated in their Mercury Owners Manual. Service must be completed by a Mercury Authorized dealer and any parts replaced must be genuine Mercury parts, oils and lubes.
How to Transfer the 5 & Drive Sales Event
During the 5 & Drive Sales Event a 2 year Mercury Product Protection (MPP) Gold service contract is applied to the engine whenpurchased. If engine is sold to a second owner, the warranty & the MPP contract can be transferred. To transfer this warranty & MPP contract, a Bill of Sale & the MPP Transfer Form along with a $50 fee is required for each engine. The appropriate MPP Transfer Form can be found on MercNET under Handy Tools - Forms - Service Forms - MPP Gold (or Platinum) US Transfer Form. Please fill out the form & submit along with Bill of Sale & $50 transfer fee to our Product Protection Department as instructed on the form.
Transfer of Warranty and/or Registration of product to subsequent owners
• Ownership may be transferred at any time. It is important to update product registration in case we need to provide notification regarding Safety Recalls or Product Service programs. • Product that you have taken in trade should have the registration transferred to your business in order to ensure notification in the event of a recall. Note that warranty coverage is not suspended on product you have taken in trade. The original warranty expiration date remains. • Note that per our Limited Warranty Policy, warranty coverage may be terminated for used product obtained in any of the following ways: repossession from a retail customer, purchase at auction, purchase from a salvage yard or liquidator, or purchase from an insurance company that obtained the product as a result of an insurance claim. • The unused portion of the Product Warranty is transferable only to subsequent recreational/pleasure users. The product warranty is not transferable from or to products used commercially, purchased for resale intent, or sold to a government agency. Still, it is important to transfer ownership regardless of use or warranty provision. • To transfer the warranty or to register to subsequent owners: A bill of sale or purchase agreement is required for registration changes and/or transfer of warranty. Documents may be sent to Mercury Marine-Registration Dept. via Fax or mail. Transfers cannot be processed via MercNET.
