Mercury trim process

I have a 2005 50 hp Mercury 2 stroke and ever since I’ve had it if I’m trimmed up more then half and hammer it it will trim itself down to a lower setting. Is this normal operation like a safety procedure for motor ?

Normal.----And do not operate the motor that way.
So all Good! Yes sir I don’t operate it that way I just figured I was easiest way to put it, like when I get on pad and it’s trimmed to high it trims down is it like a mercury safety rely hooked up for it?

I don't think it is as much safety related as it is that the trim range usually does not have the hydraulic muscle to hold the motor in place.

There is a trim range and then there is a tilt range. The tilt range was never intended for operations with the motor producing thrust.

Usually a propeller will ventilate before a motor can try and propel a boat in the tilt range. That and the water pump may not be able to pump water into the motor with the inlet vents out of the water.
