Mercury tilt/trim issue

I have a 2001 Mercury Optimax 225 hp. The tilt and trim work fine at an idle or when "barely in gear" at trolling speed. But when I accelerate even the slightest bit the tilt trim will not work from the shifter lever. I can however go back to the engine and raise and lower it with the switch on the side of the motor while it is under power. I can also go to the bow of the boat and raise and lower it with that switch as well. So, ya, I assumed it was the switch on the shift lever that was bad. To test that I stripped back some insulation on the red, green, and blue wires, below the switch itself. When the motor is in gear above an idle I can arch across from red to green, and also from red to blue and the motor still does not move up or down when under power, but does when at an idle. So, its not the switch itself. What is between that switch at the shifter and the relays under the cowling? I am guessing the relays are OK since I can raise and lower at different switches on the side of the motor and the bow of the boat when under power. Thanks for any help!!!

Found it, posting in case someone else has the same issue some day. The red wire inside the gear shift handle was broken. When the throttle was in the upward position the two boken ends touched each other and current could flow. When the gear shift lever was pushed forward the two broken ends would come apart enough to not allow current to flow. Many hours of thinking and trial and error but I'm glad I didn't get in a hurry and order a new PTT assembly for $900 and then have it not solve the problem. Two new butt connectors and a short piece of wire and I'm back in business! Peace !
