Mercury smart craft sc1000 tach just goes from 0 to 7k up and down constantly

Hello

After trying to reset my fuel consumption with the menu and light button. My whole unit is basically useless and the tach just goes from 0 to 7k up down up down.. Regardless if the engine is running or not. What is happening?

What boat, what motor, what year?

Is this with key switch on or off or both?

Is this a new to you boat or a new issue that just started?

How does the engine run?
 
New issue that just startet. Engines runs perfect. Works very well with other instruments

The condition happens when the key is in on position
 
If the Tach is a SC1000 type than it gets all info and power thru the cable connected. With nothing else having issues than I'm thinking it's either the gauge or a bad connection. If you could borrow another Tach for a quick install for verification would be the easiest

If the Tach is a standard analog Tach than check the wiring for loose or bad connection on the back of the gauge
