Hi I have a 4 hp 4 stroke 2006 mercury outboard , I am not getting any fuel into carb , the fuel pump is ok, and I also used the prime bulb and nothing, so I thought it could be the float valve. How do I remove the float valve? Or any other thoughts. Thanks for your help. Don

Pull the fuel line off the carb and squeeze the primer bulb. Are you getting fuel out of that?

Hi Yes I get fuel there. I took the carb off and sprayed carb cleaner up the fuel inlet fitting and it just came back out. The float valve needle operates, I was going to take it out, but I don't know how to take it out? Thanks for any help. Don

So yeah, you've got blockage somewhere in the carb. Carb cleaner sucks, so trash that stuff. What you need to do is order a carb kit for this engine, take it apart, and clean everything with some ordinary dish soap and warm water with a brush. The float valve assembly is held in place with a small stainless steel pin that you have to slide out, which will allow you to take the float valve itself out of the seat (as it's also held in place in a groove on the float.)

When you get the float valve out, try blowing through the fuel inlet and see if you're getting air pressure coming through. If not, there is some sort of blockage within the carb.
