I have a 2002 75 e l p t 4S, 75 hp Mercury same as the other thread when to start it for the first time since last fall does not turn over all the gauges work. However when I put my multimeter on the starter black and red wire I get 12.7 volts. Does this mean my starter / solenoid is shot. Or could there still be another problem with a safety switch. Just went through a real problem with my riding mower and safety switches and disconnected them all. However that's a different issue problem. The starter does not even try and spin the pinion gear does not move to engage the flywheel. It worked fine last fall with no problems however when I remove the top of the flywheel cover I did notice that the pinion gear was still halfway engaged in the flywheel. I am trying to determine if this is definitely a starter / solenoid issue or could it be something else. I am leaning towards a bad starter / solenoid, but I would like to have someone verify that they think the same thing. Also when does pinion gear engages the flywheel how does it line itself up so that the teeth mesh that's just a question. I'm not a boat motor guy but I'm pretty handy and can you usually fix most of my car problems is there any way to jump the solenoid or bench test the starter motor / solenoid. As always thank you for your time and your patience I do appreciate it
