Mercury Optimax 150 HP 4 beep alarm problems

wheely

We have a Mercury Optimax 150 HP (2007) which has the 4 beep alarm going off. It has been in the shop almost all summer. They checked the engine for codes, disassembled the lower unit and checked the impeller, replaced and reinstalled the oil tank on the engine and bled the system. They said that they found a low voltage on the battery so they installed a new battery, removed all positive and ground wires. Cleaned the wire ends and terminals. Tested for higher voltage and where there was a 1 volt drop previously, there was now only a 0.5 volt drop. They said that they took it for a sea trial and that it ran great...We took it out today and ran it for 30 to 40 minutes and the 4 alarm beep started going off every 2 minutes again. More than $1000.00 later, anyone have any ideas??!! They also ruled out water in the fuel or a low oil level. We have looked on the internet and tried everything that people have suggested. Are we missing anything? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

What is the 4 beep alarm? Not familiar with the Optimax. Other Mercs have a solid alarm for over temp and a modulated beeping for low oil in the tank where the tank is engine mounted. The modulation comes from the oil warning module. If no module it has to be a solid tone like the OT.

Do you have an owner's manual? If so, what does it say?

Manual says that a 4 beep...2 minutes off, indicates either low oil or water in the fuel. As we have already ruled out low oil and water in the fuel, we are wondering if anyone has had a similar issue and the solution was different than what the computer indicated the problem was. The first time we took the boat out this year, the 4 beeps started almost as soon as we started up the boat. After the oil tank and sensor was replaced we were able to drive it about 1/2 hr before the alarms started going off. After the Mercury dealer took it and thought they fixed it, we were able to drive it about 1/2 hr again and then the alarm started going off.

I'm getting out of this as I am of no help to you. As I said, I am not familiar with that engine and it looks like it has a lot of computer enhancements.

Good luck,

They also ruled out water in the fuel...
How was that done? Where do you get your fuel and is it ethanol? There may be residual water in your tank that can't get out...just keeps mixing w/new fuel or your fuel source is contaminated.
