"Hi folks..I had cleaned out carb and replaced float and needle . The instructions that came with float says "float setting wma/wmb carb .280/.320...and "float setting ba/bb carb .320/.360.. I guess what im trying to ask since i dont have anything to measure that close is will this make it run rough if it is not perfect, and where can i get rule to measure this to this spec...Also 25 to 30 years ago this motor used to make this same john boat fly . Now it seems like it goes about 60 to 65 percent fastness out of 100 percent. Spark plug leads where leaking spark through boot over plug , so i put plastic tie around boot and it stopped that.It does have the same electronic switch box but the wires are really getting brittle. Do coils get to where they dont deliver enough power to produce this lack of power?? Any help on this motor before i start buying parts is very highly appreciated..Thanks for your website.....Dave.."

You might need bigger main jet

You might need bigger main jets. This low octane now just does not do as well. You can test this theory by opening the idle mixture while on plane. This will dump more fuel into the engine at throttle and tell if it is starving a little. Re-adjust after your test to get your good idle back.

Another way to achieve the same thing is with a propane plumbers torch. Bleed a little propane in and see if it perks up or dies. (called -the propane enrichment test).
