Mercury model 110 9.8hp. trouble with finding year

A friend just picked up a Merc, model 110 9.8hp motor that doesn't run. I'm trying to find out what year it is so we can get the proper parts for it. It is missing the linkage shaft that connects the lever to the lower unit. It has a serial number, 3487133, on an aluminum plate riveted to the transom bracket between the clamps. The cowling has mercury lettering with a blue line above and below the lettering. It also has a chrome piece that has the 110 on it. It says "Thunderbolt ignition" on it as well. I am pretty sure this motor is from the 70's, but when I look up the s/n on mercury's site it does not come up.

Here is a pic of the motor if that helps. I have tried several sites to try and cross the s/n over, but none can find it. I have also tried to change the first digit to a B or 8, but that isn't correct either.
