I have a Mercury mark 5. When I received it the lower unit had been disassembled, I'm now trying to figure out how the clutch mechanism works. The new clutch springs I've seen on line have a up turned tab at the end and the old one does not. It looks as if it might have broken off. Does the finger trip catch on the tab? The drive shaft assembly drawing is not helpful. Also, what position does the thrust washer (12-22739) go, above or below the spring.
