Hi Everyone, wondering if there is any kind hearted petrol head that might help a depressed UK fisherman with basic engine skills. Thanks in advance if you can. Last time I was out in boat the engine was working perfectly, guess what.... it doesn't now.The batteries are fully charged, fuel to all new spark plugs, engine is turning over well but will not start. Tried cranking over engine with plugs out and earthed but doesn't look like a have a spark at any of plugs. Can anyone advise best run through test as to what it could be or what I should check and how I should check, but please keep it simple.
The engine is a 1997 60HP 2stroke 3cyl. I will be testing the boat on water in the marina unless it proves difficult then I will have to remove her for maintenance.
Thanks again if you can help.

Hi guyjg, thanks for your help with this. I will try and test the rectifier and follow the other instructions tomorrow hopefully and let you know. If there is a delay in getting back to you it's not because I've forgotten it's just I haven't had time because of work but I will get back to you.

tested the kill switch with multi meter and found the problem, split the connections to by-pass the switch and she turned over no problem as soon as I connected the wires again she tripped. The switch was obviously going to ground. Replaced the kill switch and she is working fine now. Thanks for that website link guyjg I have found it to be very useful.

I have a 1985 Key West 1720 Center Console, with a 1985 Mariner 60 HP outboard. Had starting problems, I had spark, I had cranking, but wouldn't start. My mechanic found that the float inside carburetor #1 (top carburetor) was stuck in the "up" position (closed position), not letting fuel in, stopping the choke from working all together. I thought someone might benefit from this tidbit of Mariner troubleshooting.
