Mercury lower unit questions

With mercury engines (2001) Does can a standard rotating lower unit bolt right up to the a counter rotating engine? I know johnson all the change is in the lower unit and wanted to verify its the same for mercurys too?

"Jesse, it's the lower unit that is different not the powerhead, so any powerhead can take either lower unit - it's the gears, in the case, that are switched around to make it counter rotating (which is actually the natural way the prop would spin without extra gears to make it spin clockwise - go figure)..."
