" We have a Black Max 225. The engine starts fine, but what follows is a 10 minute ordeal of hic-ups w/ full gauge alarms and stalling (which can be extremely annoying). The engine also studders at high speeds, but not as bad.

Before taking it in for serviceŠ
Any suggestions??? Help???

" Marcy.... Mercurys aren't my line of expertise but the problem you describe would pertain to any outboard. The Hic-Cups and Stalling are usually contributed to the engine running lean which is caused by clogged/fouled carburetors. There may be of course other problems but if the engine has been sitting for any length of time, I'd strongly suspect the carbs. The cure in which case would be the removal, cleaning, and rebuilding of all the carburetors.
