Greetings! I have a 1996 Mercury Force 40 two-stroke outboard powering my 20' pontoon boat. This summer will be the 5th year we've had the boat on the water. We put 100 hours or less on the motor each year. I have not replaced the impeller and am wondering if I should do so as part of regular maintenance? We have had no trouble with the cooling system; and the lower unit oil, which I change yearly, has always looked very clean. The folks we bought the boat from in 2022 took very good care of the motor, but I'm not sure when the impeller was last maintained. Do I replace it or leave well enough alone? Thank you for your thoughts!
