"Hi All, I have a Mercury serial number A156425 My guess is it's a 1985 XR2 150 What do you think. Also how would you ID the power head? Could someone have put a different power head on this unit? I'm confused as to the serial number thing, as it's on the mid section. Is there anything on the power head itself, to identify?"

There might be a silver plug on the powerhead listing the serial number. Most engines are produced for several years using the same block, just changing minor things. They can be identified by the parts on the engine itself. You can look at several different years to see what you have here.
