i have a 2001 60 hp outboard that loses voltage when i increase rpm s . it runs normal at idle but as i increase rpms my volts drop and my engine skips. the only way my volts go back to normal is to restart the motor.and then i can run it at low rpms

Ok, need to back up a step here.

You say it loses voltage - where?

You have a volt meter and it drops somewhat below 12 volts?

Or, you are assuming it's losing voltage because you develop a hesitation in the ignition.

The bobbins that provide power for the battery (which would be measured by a volt meter) and the bobbins that provide power for the ignition are completely different (units) such that one doesn't affect the other - although "both" could be toasted.

The other possible cause for both issues would be damage to the wire harness that comes from under the flywheel. If it's grounding/shorting out it could affect both your 12 volt system and the ignition...

i do have a voltage meter in the dash if istay below 2000 rpms it stays it 12 volts once i go over 2000 the voltage gauge bottoms out and the motor stutters. also for some reason the tacometer goes nust also. i dont know if thats because the harness comes out of the ignition switch and then goes to the tac first and then to the voltage meter. all other electrical on the boat is fine. by the way the boat is a tracker

It sounds like you either have a short in the harness (possibly under the hood/engine end) or your stator is on the way out - toasted high speed bobbins and possibly compromised charge coils.

Since a stator is an expensive piece of kit I would take the motor to a shop and have it tested with a DVA meter which will rule in/out the stator as the issue.
