" I had my 1993 Mercury EFI rebuilt last year. The problem that I am having is that I have lost about 4 mph to the speed of the boat. I am burning 94 octane gas in it. The question that I have is would the timing having something to do with the octane of gas, since it is electronicly controlled? "

" The timing on your engine is still mechanical. The fuel injection is the computer controlled part of the system. The WOT and IDLE timing can be affected though by their separate control modules. You can disconnect them, then try the motor again with no worries. "
