"I have a 1979 Merc 9.8hp. I noticed that it was not pumping water good so I checked the impeller and found that it was bad. I then decided to check the thermostat and when I removed the cover with the spring type clip that holds it down, I found that it doesn't have one. Is it OK to run the engine without a thermostat or should I get one?"

Mine is the same way. It had n

Mine is the same way. It had no thermostat either but it runs fine. I replaced the impeller & after that no overheating problems at all
