"Hey guys,

I have a 9.8 that was sitting on the back of my boat tied at the shoreline (west coast). I didn't realize the tide rose as far as it did and the boat went under. The engine is seized. I've pulled over the covers and carb and I can see a fair bit of salt build-up inside. I'm planning on pulling it apart once I get a puller for the top weight. Is this worth breaking down and having the components machined and rebuilding or should I let it RIP? The motor itself has got to be 20yrs old. But it had just had a major service and ran like a charm... any advice?

thx"

"David, You need to rip it down immediately, or the damage to the crank becomes too severe. Judging by the age of this message, I think you have passed the time limit on that motor."

I haven't pulled it apart

I haven't pulled it apart yet but I will anyway ( I was waiting for a gear puller to try and get the top weight (flywheel weight?) off. It's not something that can be taken to a machine shop and ground/polished?

thanks for the reply. any guidance/advice is appreciated.
