Mercury 9.9 fuel issue..

Okay, I recently purchased a 1987 Mercury 9.9 kicker for my boat. I also run a Merc. 75 on said boat. Both are two cycle engines. I have been using the same fuel line on both motors. However, I noticed today that while running the 9.9 it would begin to cough down and stall out on me. I immediately would try to go to nuetral position, if I made it there quick enough most times I could keep it from stalling out (then rev the throttle to get my rpms back). I also thought it wasnt getting enough fuel so I would grab my primer and it would be soft. I would squeeze it a few times and then it would run fine for another period of time. Does this seem like I am losing suction? is it a fuel pump issue? I am going to replace my fuel filter tomorrow in hopes that it is a cheap fix. What does anyone else think? Thanks!

If the other motor runs fine then I suspect the fuel pump since it ran better after you pumped the primer.

Well if it is my fuel pump, do you think just replacing the diaphragm would fix the issue? Or will I be needing to replace the entire (discontinued) pump? Thanks for the quick reply as well.

There should be a diaphragm kit fo it. Search by engine SN above in "Engine Parts".
