Mercury 9.9 4-stroke dies after about 2 seconds

Howdy,

When I pump the fuel primer (bulb on front of motor) a couple times, then pull the cord, it runs for about 1-2 seconds then dies. If I keep pulling, I get nothing.

If I pump the fuel primer about 10X it will run for about 6 seconds. The fuel primer has a small leak, but I have never had problems keeping the motor running even with massive leaks in the previous fuel primer.

I pulled the carb and cleaned it. I may not be a pro, but I used a ton of carb cleaner and followed a video on youtube. Same story, it still does the same thing.

Primer bulb for fuel tank is good and hard.

Gas is fresh.

I took the line off the fuel filter and pumped the primer bulb and fuel shot through effortlessly. I went ahead and blew air through it as well.

I think the big clue is that the more I push the primer, the longer the motor will run without dying.

What should I check next?

Thanks!

Clean the carburetor.----------There are small passage ways and usually folks miss them the first time.----------Do you run the motor out of fuel between outings ??

Thanks for your replies. I pulled the carb back out and realized I didn't clean the main nozzle. I did pull the main jet, but didn't remember to unscrew the main nozzle beneath it. It's purring like a kitten now. Thanks again!!!
