Mercury 9.8HP ser# 3798363 help!

I purchased a used Mercury 9.8 110 thunderbolt ignition motor. I havent a clue about the motor. What type of fuel to use or what year it is. could you give me some info in this area and any reccomendations about the use of this motor. Thank you

I have the same motor it saved me a few days ago on the erie canal I used a mix of 50:1 seems to work great and not smoke alot..Mines a 1972 good tough little motor

That's a 1974 model. 50:1 with TCW3 outboard oil an unleaded gas (86 octane) will be fine.
