Hey guys, I have a 1980 Mercury 9.8. There is a little gold nipple on the left side down behind the shift lever that spits a little gas when started. I'm assuming a hose goes on it but I just can't find where it's supposed to lead to. Help please! :)

It shopuld go to a hose up to the upper bearing it take the oil that settles in the crankcase and pushes it up to the top crank bearing.

I can't seem to find an output to run from there to where it needs to be. I am not that familiar with 2 stroke outboards.

There is a short length of hose ( 3 inches ) from back and bottom of the carburetor to that checkvalve !----------Best to install a new piece of hose.------Perhaps someone has swapped the carburetor.--------With motor on my workbench it would be easy.

Thank you for the reply. I believe someone has swapped out the carb because i can not find a spot for that hose to connect to. Is is possible to rig it any other way?

Or the simples way is to feed the hose so it sprays into the intake of the motor.------That is how the latest versions worked with a fitting at the back of the carburetor.
