mercury 8hp outboard problems

i was running my 8hp merc and all of a sudden it slowed down and stopped running, to make sure that i didn't just fowl the spark plugs, i grounded them to check and see, both spark plugs were firing, but the engine wouldn't start...any suggestions?

and also: the motor is a 1988 2 stroke, i had a new switch box put in and a carb tune up the water pump works great and can't think of a reason of why it won't start....

Flywheel loose ? -Flywheel key sheared?--------Fuel in the carburetor ?-------Possibly water in the fuel ?

Gas tank vent closed or fuel pump pooped on you.

i am pretty positive that gas isn't getting to the carburetor. the problem has to be tank-related or fuel pump-related thanks

i inspected the fuel line from the tank to the motor, everything looks fine except for the plug into the motor, the plug has a metal ball inside it where the gas passes through, the only problem is that there was a little bit of rubber around the ball that has been mangled and the rubber isn't there anymore, could the fuel line be my problem?

Yup; sucking air instead of fuel.
