"hi all,am new to boating and

"hi all,am new to boating and my introduction to outboards is the above engine. lurking on this site an others i have learnt alot i have stripped an greased the remote, reset the cables for gears an throttle reset the carbs cleaned up the dizzy an sparks. but now i have a question (hopefully noel is reading this,, hello an you know ya stuff)there is a rubber pipe that runs from under the stator and down to between cyl 2/3 on the fuel pump side, whats its job? it ruptured and the first i noticed 2stroke oil was all over the engine, what damage might i have done after about 40 miles of use in this condition. cheers

"That looks like one of the lines to feed oil to the end cap bearings, on the engine it will have a check valve. Fix it. If you state the year we can look it up to verify"

"thanks for the quick reply, the pipe (arrowed)is now repaired/replaced, whats a check valve, would i have done damage. i am told its a 71/72 thunderbolt ign serial# 3310507, cheers"

"That's one of those lines that attempts to get rid of oil pooling inside the motor so plugs don't foul. There should be another fitting hiding under the bracket for the other end of the hose. DON'T run it without the hose connected, for that's a bad vacuum leak.

As JB says it's one of the lines that feed surplus oil to the top end bearing.Even if it was ruptured there would still a little getting up,so I don't think you would have done any damage to the bearing."
