I have a Early 80's

"Hi,
I have a Early 80's model Mercury 80hp outboard engine.The engine is running fine,but the trim/tilt has a promblem.The pump works, but it will only go down to full and when you bring it back up, it will stop about half way.But the pump stops and so does the up and down motion.I have tried adding more oil to it but I don't know if I put enough,I have never had this problem before, so I don't know what to do to fix it. IF YOU HAVE ANY ANSWERS PLEASE WRITE."

How many buttons on the trim / tilt controls???

It has 1 up and down control s

It has 1 up and down control switch.

"Bubba, Normally Mercury built in a "trim limit switch" to keep you from trimming the motor up too far. Do you have a square "trailer" button on the control handle? If so, this button should raise tht motor the rest of the way up."
