Mercury 80hp blue band (2stroke) Problems

Initially when starting engine on choke, quite a lot of throttle is needed on the gear arm for engine to start, however when bringing the gear arm back to the idle position the engine will start to struggle and then in the end cut out before the idle position can be achieved.

a local mechanic has noticed that the plug in cylinder 2 keeps oiling up. We have cleaned it and changed the plug but still no.2 will be oiled up after a short time of the engine running..

the plugs in the other 3 cylinders remain clean

sparks to the top two cylinders are very strong on start up but the bottom two don’t spark until the engine has fired up.

This is a mercury 80hp blueband (800) im guessing late 70s -80s engine with the blue cowling on top

any ideas??
Not long had the boat and the engine ran fine the first time I used it.

thanks in advance

Did you do a compression test on this motor ?----Did you install a new impeller when you got this motor ?----Does spark jump a gap of 1 cm on all 4 leads, yes or no ?----Fuel pump diaphragm checked , yes or no ?----You need to present these facts so folks from afar can help you diagnose the problems or other steps to take.

Pump diaphragm ok,
cylinder 3&4 1cm spark at crank over speed no problem

Cylinder 1&2 no spark at cranking speed, but once engine running 1cm sparks ok.. no 1 cylinder running fine but no 2 problem cylinder.

1&2 cylinder fire off one trigger, 3&4 off the other trigger.

could it be a coil fault or a stator fault?

cheers hope this helps
