I just boughtthis mercury 60 efi 2002. I tried the engine in the water keg home (outside was cold ,about 33 F degrees)
engine starts easily and runs well but when I tried to accelerate( warm up about 5 min) the engine has a hesitation then accelerates .
after 10 min warm up accelerates better but still has a hesitation . I checked TPS ,MAP senzor, temperature sensor all ok , cleaned the injectors,VST, new sparkplug ,flters .It may be because it's to cold outside? engine ran without cover!

Thank you for your answers,
i think thermostat was changed recently, looks like new
I expect the weather to warm up for a test on a boat.

this is my first Mercury 4 stroke
some opinions or feedback about this type of engine 60 efi 2002 ? is it a good one or not realy ?

Yea man you aren't doing yourself
any favors trying to diagnose that motor with no prop load AND no exhaust back pressure. how many guys on here have to tell you this for you to believe it?? That motor sounds fine on the muffs IMO. I would stop hitting that throttle so abruptly with no load I have seen 4 strokes slip a timing belt tooth getting abused with no load!

You rebuilt the fuel system but did you check the fuel pressure at the vst? Should be between 42-44psi. Mine was running 55-60psi because of a clog at the fuel pressure regulator.

Thank you all for your help, the next days will go by boat on the water for tests.
I checked in VST pressure is about 35psi in idle (I'm not sure that the gouge indicates correctly)I think the manual says 40-42 psi at 5000rpm. is that correct?

Could be a fuel restriction, fuel supply, have you tried squeezing primer bulb while running on the open water with an assistant?? i see you have fuel pressure

I finally managed to test the engine in the water.
engine works very well, accelerates well and has a good idling.
Observation on: when exceeding 6000rpm hear a beep and a red light illuminates on the dashboard clock ( I have old dashboard from mercury 60 2 strocke autolube and red light that illuminates corresponds to "no or low oil mixture" )

Glad to hear the engine is doing well. As far as the beeping, that means that you need a bigger prop, or are ventilating.

These motors drop 2 cylinders at 6250rpms, and drop all 4 cylinders at 6350rpms. What you are hearing is the over-rev protection alarm. It will temporarily cut spark to get the revs down. I have this motor with a jet foot and if I cavitate running open throttle in a heavy chop I will sometimes encounter this rev cut. I try not to do it but in a jet sometimes it is in-evitable. Your issue can be easily remedied by a prop change.

What size prop are you running right now? How much throttle are you giving it to over-rev?

thanks again for your help

i have 12pich prop ,and 10 1/4 diameter , my boat length 4.8 meters, weight 300 kg +112kg mercury , I think I need 15 pich ....

Hmmmm, okay. It is hard to speculate on what size you would need without being able to let the engine wind out at full WOT, trimmed all the way up. Typically, we see a 200rpm drop for each step up in pitch.

I am in america, so for ease of my mind I will convert the metric system so I can think about this.
So your boat is 16', 660lbs., 250lb motor.

I had a very similar boat. 16', 700lbs. with a 250lb motor. 1984 75hp (at the crank, probably 65-70 at the prop) 2 stroke. I had a 15p prop that would spin up to 5850 rpms with a light load, 5500 with a very heavy load. I put a more aggressive 15p on there and could only get 5050-5300rpms out of it, depending on load. (that motor liked 5500-6000 rpms) The 2 strokes will also spin up faster than the 4 strokes.

All that being said, I think a cupped 13p stainless or a 15p aluminum may put you on the mark, but that all depends on how much throttle you are laying down before you start to over rev. How far are you from pegging the throttle when you overrev?? Does it always over rev or just when you trim out?

i'm not speculate, this is recomandate in servis manual at these dimensions of boats and my gear ratio 1,83/1
thanks everyone
