Maybe somebody can help.

I have a 1980 Mercury 50hp Thunderbolt blueband engine.

Have replaced carb kits and new water pump impeller. Tuned up etc.

When the engine is running out of the water all runs well until I put it in the water and it will go very well for about 5 minutes and then cuts out, will not start after that, seems that it could be an electrical problem.

Hopefully you are supplying water to prevent damage to the impeller , when running it out of the water.--------Have you checked your fuel supply, what happens when an assistant operates the manual fuel pump ?----Is the vent open on the tank?-----Fuel mixed at 50:1 ?----Have you checked the fuel pick-up tube inside the tank ?

I am supplying water when running out of the water----------fuel supply, mixture OK, vent open, no difference when operating manual fuel pump,, fuel pick up OK.

Try to start the engine with engine spray start - nothing, no kick to the engine.

If the engine stands overnight, I can start it no problem.

This engine does not like water.

You need to make it die like that again, then IMMEDIATELY check it for spark. THat will tell what's going on.
