I have a 50hp Mercury ELPTO, rebuilt carbs, it will start but acts like starving for fuel, push electronic choke and she speeds up but then gradually slows down and then stall, i you push the choke button right beore she stalls she will rev back up and then descend down and stall, could this be a uel pump issue or electronic choke solenoid malunctioning?:confused:

could this be a uel pump issue
It sounds like a fuel issue, whether it is the pump or fuel line needs to be determined. Does it run well if you keep squeezing primer ball? If it does then open the pump to verify the diaphragms are in good condition.

Having to use the choke clearly indicates a fuel problem.-------You have dirt in one or more carburetors,-----Or the low speed needles need to be adjusted.----Did you clean / repair the carburetors yourself ?

I tore the carbs down soaked the bodies in Chem Dip a commercial carb cleaner, then took them out and rinsed them, then blew through all passages with compressed air, installed new kits and gaskets, primed her and started her with choke in she ired up and reved up and then decended in speed and stalled, I restarted her and when she started to die out hit the choke again and she reved back up thne would decend againand hit choke and she'd go back up so I'm thinking its the uel pump, the enricher checks out with a volt meter and the solenoid is clicking. That all I can come up with that its the uel pump what do you think?

I have set the idle needle at 1-1/2 and tried adjusting from there but its still starving for fuel thats what gives me the concern that the Fuel Pump is not unctioning properly.

I now have the same problem as jpsmallengines. unbelievable how bad these merc elpto idle. serial number 1b727911. cleaned carbs twice with ultrasonic cleaner and the n chem dip and nothing helps.

boat runs great at all rpms. will not idle for more than 20 seconds... at a friggin loss on what to do other than sell it.

I have found sonic cleand and air to clean carbs don't always work so now i take a peice of wire or something like that to go through every hole in a carb and jets. Even after sonic clean and air i have found passages still clogged. You got to thoroughly clean them.
