MERCURY 5.7 L Alpha One

Hi,

New here, i see lots of good people helping each other. Hope someone will help me and than i can aslo help someone else.

Have a 2000 Maxum 2300 Sc with Mercury 5.7L Alpha One 250 HP. Started dry and ran for about 30 sec ( was told it's OK to run dry , but was not sure) and than it shut-off by itsel. No noise or bang. Hope it might be the water pump. Does anybody know if that's right?

Got price for New pump $53 hope to install by myself.

Welcome. You have a Mercruiser I/O and this section is for Mercury/Mariner outboards. Repost in the Mercruiser section.

They told you wrong--water shall be connected to the water inlet at all times when the engine in an I/O is running to prevent from frying the waterpump impeller in the O/D.
