Hi can anyone help me please?
I have worked out that my mercury 40hp motor is A US model
from 1972.
what I need is a stator for this engine it is a two cylinder two stroke with electric and pull start .
The stator on my motor is Black. I’m not sure if this was standard of fitted more recently. However it is no good and giving wrong readings.
any help locating a stator for this motor would be very much
appreciated.

The reading on the yellow wires (with rectifier disconnected) should be around .75 ohms, infinity ohms between the mounting case (ground) and any yellow wire. Is the alternator not charging the battery? [Black is a common case color.]
It's possible that the rectifier is blown if you aren't getting any voltage to the battery.

I have never had this motor running!
but there is no spark at all on either cylinder .
the wires on the stator are badly corroded and the yellow wires have been changed to Blue however I get a reading off them and the black but nothing from the red wire

This is a later wiring diagram so the ignition section might not match but the starting components should -
Merc-402-wiringsmall.jpg the solenoid etc.
