Mercury 40 fuel leak from carb

"I just tried to start my motor after a few months of storage on the boat in my garage.
It starts OK but leaks fuel badly from a hole in the middle carb - see photo. It is just pumping out when starting/running. The hole looks like it should be there as the other 2 carbs have the same hole but they are dry.

"OK, it's only me replying to my own post cos I cant delete it now. Anyway...
I must have forgotten some of the basics after all these years. Straight after sending this post I gave it a bit of thought and realised that the hole was there for a purpose ... so it must be the overflow therefore the float is probably stuck, so I whipped off the carby and removed the bottom and gave it a bit of a clean and jiggled the float and hey presto - good as new.}"
