I'm looking to purchase two 6 HP engines for 19' Grumman canoes, in which we take an annual fishing trip. We've been using the older 4.5 Mer's and they really do a good job, but some of the Magneto parts are unavailable as new, and this year we had one go down on the trip. 
So, it's likely time to upgrade, a bit more HP won't hurt, the 6's are in a comparable weight range, and I'm looking at the Merc 6HP and the Suzuki 6HP.
As i want something that will last for years, i'd appreciate any info anyone can give me. FI, i read somewhere that Merc isn't making these small engines, they are actually made by Yamaha ???
Anyone have any knowledge or experience with them ? Any others in that HP range that you may know about ??
