I have a 1978 Merc Model 40, 4 hp Gnat outboard, (twin cyl.). These outboards were only made for a few years due to a number of factors including an inability to siphon. There was no fuel pump, the carb had to suck in the fuel thru a lower shutoff valve. I re designed the fuel flow to give a direct positive fuel flow with a clear fuel line ( so I can see if there are any air bubbles) and now it runs fine.
Problem: I can't easily get it into neutral. It starts fine in gear but I'd prefer to start it in neutral. Can anyone remember how to do this adjustment?
Thanks, Larry
