Mercury 4 hp 40 wireing problem

i have a mercury 4 hp (40&

i have a mercury 4 hp (40)outboard serial no 3158976 replaced white wire from contact does this go to positive or neg side also the green wire that goes in to stator and the other green wire goes to ground on stator pos or neg i know i should of took a picture kinsey

JB I couldnt find my motor wireing diagram on that site the pdf file you sent was for a 400 mine is a 4 hp thanks
