"I have a 1984 25xd originally manual. This may be a stupid question, but here goes. There is no place to set the choke for starting. The flapper in the throat is closed (cold), only opens if you engage in forward or reverse and give it some throttle. It seems to be tied to the carb throttle cam. If the engine is warm, won't the engine flood in neutral? I have never started this puppy yet, just converted to elec. but want to know all the parts are in order before I put the cowlings on. Thanks for any advise or lesson you can give me."

I think your engine has a prim

I think your engine has a primer you pullout push in squirts fuel in turning the knob increases idle speed it may also have ele.mounted on carb blocks air to enrich when you push key in

"Yes, that is correct - the big black knob pulls out to choke the motor. Upon conversion to electric you can also add a choke solenoid that will do the choking for you either through the keyswich or a push button that you rig up....

There is also a neutral safety switch available for the engine end of things (if it is not included in the shifter) - just so you don't hit the starter when in gear and possibly pitch someone overboard..."

"Hello again. There is no knob slevers or any place for one. There is no elec. selenoid because it was a manual start. If you look at the diagram of the engine early mariner versions had a push pull and turn knob, but the mercury version does not even have the same carb. My model #1025224 s/n 6470940 1984 25XD This is very strange no to have any choke control, and it would have to be accessible with the hood on."

I look in midas your s# all the carb options look to have a sguare knob that pull to move primer it must have been removed by old owner?

"Hi again: The mercury and Ma

"Hi again: The mercury and Mariner has a small square bracket called an actuator right in front of the carb. The Mariner shows a knob with a shaft and "O" ring that goes into through this actuator apparently to the carb. I pulled this actuator bracket off and found solid metal of the carb. so it would do no good to get this knob since it wouldn't connect or go into anything. I talked to the old owner, he said it was always this way, he didn't remove anything. Any other suggestions would be appreciated."

when your looking down at the carb on the lower side is there a little blue button exposed sticking out of a square shaped unit

"Hi Waterman: No there is no buttons of any sort.

If you look from the front, The so called actuator plate is sitting in front of the carb right below the throat. I took the acuator plate off and nothing behind it except metal from the lower portion of the carb. Just to the right of the actuator plate and attached to the carb is a little round bowl with a moveable stem sticking out and a lever sits on this stem. I can depress the lever and stem slightly but you could never get to this with the cowling on. There is a WC 2 stamped on the edge of the carb. Does anyone have a diagram of the carb they think I have with location of this knob. According to the diag. at Crowley Marine

There is no knob. If anyone has a link or a better diagram that they could send me, I would appreciate it. Email: [email protected]
Thank you"

Thanks for everyone's help

Thanks for everyone's help. I removed the actuator plate assembly which included the primer lever that wouldn't move. Degreased everything and got rid of a 1/2" of crud and now the actuator plate pulls out and moves the primer lever to push on the primer plunger. I guess I better degrease this whole engine and re-lubricate.
