Mercury 25hp what year?

I've just bought a 25hp merc with the serial number 9338582 and made in Belgium
I can't seem to find what year it is on the charts on the net, can anyone please help?

Hi Dean,
The number puts that engine in the '80-'81 http://www.storesonline.com/site/573683/page/609739 , but as you have found there are no Belgian built 25's for those years. There is a possibility that the cowling is 25HP but the powerhead a 20HP.
Mercury's numbers are year sensitive,not outboard HP or model,ie. 9338582 could be a 25HP and 9338583 could very well be a 125HP

Cheers for that ,is there anything else to look for to identify year ? ,so could acctually only be a 20hp not 25hp.

Ok the charts just made a lier out of me.I think. Have a look at this site,gives a Belgian 25HP http://www.crowleymarine.com/mercury-outboard/676.cfm .So you probably have a 25HP. Mind you,according to Crowley marine,Mercury only produced a 9.9 and a TH?? in 1981.
