mercury 225

I've had both and hydralic is alot easier.Cable steer wore me out and I couldn't run in real tight spots like I can with hydralic steer.

A 225 is a "big" motor -

for safety I would personally opt for a double cable system such as Teleflex "no feedback" rotary or rack twin cable systems (discount price around 400 bucks)

A hydraulic option (such as SeaStar) would run you double that, but is a far superior steering system.

Even the best cared for steering can seize a cable - with the cable systems it is almost always cheaper to replace the entire unit than just the cables.

In the long run the costs will equal out - you will put in your second cable system before the hydraulic gives you any issues.....
