Mercury 1999 25hp 4stroke bigfoot

I have a 1999 mercury 25hp 4stroke bigfoot, the problem is, i want to change the impeller but can't figure out how to take the shifting rod off motor. Can anyone please help me? basstracker413

Take off the "hood" and look to see where the shift shaft comes in through the lower cowl.

Where it connects up to the base of the powerhead there is a retainer (that you move "upwards" out of the way) and then a clip that you remove to separate it from the rest of the linkage.

Sorry, it's difficult to explain better than that - once you find it and have unhooked it once, you will never forget...
