"Hi, I have a 25 hp Mercury 1993 outboard engine, and there is only one spark plug working ok. There is no problem with the coils, I changed the wires coming from the switch box and the other spark plug worked ok. So, is it a problem with the switch box or it can be the stator?
Thank you in advance for your help, and sorry for my bad English, I'm from Brasil.

"Is there any chance of the problem be related to any other electrical failure? I'm asking this because I'd like to be sure before purchasing a brand new switch box, it is very expensive here in Brasil.
Thanks."

"wiring from switch box to coil. switch box stores power from stator, sends that power to coil, coil steps up voltage and sends that to plug"

"Ok, thank you again, but... it may sound as a stupid question, but I'm not sure about what do you mean by wiring from the switch box to coil... please detail, I'm a Brazilian trying to be a do-it-yourself guy...

"I tested the failing switch box/coil wire with an ohms meter and it is ok. Then I decided to check if there was any voltage being generated from the failing wire coming from the switch box , and I could see it was generating a certain amount of voltage. Is this expected, even with a damaged switch box?"

"I don't know what the vol

"I don't know what the voltage should be, you can compare it to the side that is working but be carefull you don't blow up your voltage tester. For future testing always ground the spark plug to block when testing, hard on powerpacks"

"I'm setting the meter to

"I'm setting the meter to a range of 750 volts, but it is difficult to measure the voltage because I'm not starting the engine, just manually spinning the flywheel, what I think doesn't give an accurate measure... :)
Anyway, I think I'm going to register for an online 25 hp Seloc manual, maybe it is the right way to get straight to the problem. I hope it gives me all the information I need to pinpoint the problem.

Thank you very much for your help!

"Hello, Jagkrit. Thank you for the information. It'd be great if I could do it, but... as far as I know the only electrical parts I have in my engine is a trigger, stator, switch box and two coils, besides two magnets fixed to the flywheel. What is exactly the powerpack? Is it the switch box? If yes, how can I replace the condenser if the entire switch box is sealed? I believe it is likely a very simple electronic issue inside the switch box, but can't get access to it. Is there any way to remove all that sealing stuff from the switch box and gain access to the electronic parts?"

"If the switchbox is shot , just replace the whole thing. I don't believe they are designed to be taken apart by the do-it yourselfer. They are sealed units not meant to be taken apart."
