Mercury 1973 20hp model 200 no spark

"You can do some basic resista

"You can do some basic resistance tests with an ohm meter to test the stator and trigger.

The switchbox is determined to be bad by proving that everything else is working properly.

On the stator you are looking for between 185-205 ohm between the red and blue leads

On the trigger you want 800-1000 ohms between the two wires coming from the trigger.

Both must be disconected from the switchbox when you test.

If you have "NO" continuity at all then that part is definately toasted.

If they are out of spec with the ohm measurement, then they need to be further tested with a DVA meter (normally have to go to a shop for that one)."

I checked stator and trigger o

I checked stator and trigger out of cucuit and the results were 187ohms and 803ohms . Do I now need DVA meter and were do I get one . I have a fluke 77 can iI get a adapter. What are the DVA reading for the 73 model 200?

I can't remember if Andrew who runs this site carries them or not. CDI electronics has a version out.

Or if you even have a motorcycle shop nearby they should have one and for a minimal charge can test your stator.

I don't remember exactly but I paid somewhere between 50-100 bucks for my adapter. Not the kinda thing you want to buy to do 1 test - but everyone is your friend when you do have one
