Mercury 175 stuck in gear

"I took the foot off and chang

"I took the foot off and changed the water pump, I put it in forward to do this. I put foot back on and now its stuck in forward gear. I removed foot and tried to get out of gear using shifter rod with no luck. It would shift gears with no problems before I remove foot.. Amy ideas??"
