WHAT YEAR IS MY ENGINE THE SER

WHAT YEAR IS MY ENGINE THE SERIAL NUMBER IS 5203763.I WAS TOLD IT IS A 1979. THANK YOU FOR ANY INFORMATION

In 1978 they marketed the one and only model 1500XS inline 6.

1979 was the first year that they marketed it as simply the 150 Inline 6.

The "new" model had serial numbers in the 5xxxxxx block, 1500's (including XS) serials ran from 28xxxxx to 49xxxxx

150 XR2 and 150 XR4 were the V6's from 1986 thru/including 1991 and the 150 XR6 came out in 1992.

At least this is the information I have in my Merc achives..."

"You are correct - after a little further digging, I found that Merc introduced the Black Max series in 1978. They built a V1500 (150), a V1750 (175) and V2000 (200). These were the first V6 models that they built.

I have absolutely no indication of any of these models in my Merc serial archive (or for the V.... model at all).

The first serial numbers that I show for these is in 1979 - however that could be because of the way Merc catalogs their serials after having done away with the "model year".

I have a Mercury outboard with a serial no. 6384433 bought second hand Is it a 78 model?
