Mercury 150 blk max oil injection system removal

I have an 89 merc 150 blk max xr4 and I want to remove the oil injection system and just manually mix the oil into the gas.
Can I just disconnect the electric leads and plug the oil inlet on the fuel pump, and disconnect the linkagefrom the carb to the oil pump, or do I need to pull the oil pump all the way out?

pull the pump, reservoir, linkage, and low oil alarm and buy a plug kit on amazon.
