Mercury 135 1997 impeller replacement

Hi all, replaced my waterpump with an aftermarket kit today. All seems to fit well and match with old parts, however the driveshaft and prop are very tight and almost can not be turned by hand. Is this normal or should I be looking for something else?

If you didn't lube the new impeller, yes. I soak them with dish detergent when I install them.

Yes I did apply a small amount of grease to the cup and drive shaft. The housing appears to be sitting sightly lower than the old one, as there is a buffed section of driveshaft showing above the new housing where the old seal was rubbing. Should there be a gasket between the gearbox housing and the lower pump unit?
