I have a Mercury 1 cylinder mo

I have a Mercury 1 cylinder motor..The hood is missing..I am trying to find out what hp and what year model it is..The model number is OD 914252

"The serial, which is just a production number and contains no useful information makes the model a 1993(ish) build.

For that model year it could be a 2.5 or 3.3 North American marketed model or a 4 or 5 horse marketed predominantly to Japan (but were sold worldwide).

The 2.5 horse is kinda direct drive (always in forward) so if it has a gear shifter it's definately not a 2.5

Sometimes the carb casting numbers will help identify the horsepower. So if you can find some numbers maybe they can be compared against parts lists."

Thanks for your reply..The motor is made by Brunswick Corp.-Japan..The shifter does go into neutral and the motor rotates 360 degrees..The carb number is 78BC CK06..Can you pinpoint the HP with this additional info???
 
I believe you have a 5 horse m

I believe you have a 5 horse model there. The basic difference between the 4 and 5 horse models was the carb with the 4 having a model 77 and your the model 78 (BC).
